Ultracade #3

(blogged by David Kudrev)

Currently listening to:

Track 15: Sub Castle

Wow.. As some of you folks know who know me, I love Industrial music, but what I love as much, if not more, is 8bit/games music, why? because I was brought up on it as a youngun…

So I had my day at work, fled, went home briefly and then headed back out, caught up with my friend Mel for dinner at the pub next to La Boheme, she had the tofu/beans, I had this;

Then after that, we washed our grub down with beers, and went to La Boheme;

Thanks to the lovely Shenna (sorry if I spelt it wrong) for serving me the Bowser drink once again!

Games of the night from left to right: Capcom VS SNK, Mortal Kombat 2, Halo 2, Time Crisis, and Bomberman on some shit console.. Sega Mega something..

This here was the venue’s themed cocktail: Sonic Boom

Blue Curacao
Vodka?
Bourbon
Red Bull
Lemonade
juice (pineapple?)

One of the competitions for the tournament tonight, was one of my favourite fighting games.. Mortal Kombat 2.. even more it was on the SNES! My mate Alec is the only other person who’s on par with me when it comes to that game. Nobody else I know can kick my arse. Not something I should be proud about, and yes I remember all the special moves/fatalities.. I could well have been crowned King Geek at Ultracade.. but no.. I was given 1st place for kicking Alec’s arse, and a good game that was too! I was shaking like a motherfucker. Also because I never won 1st place in anything before.. Truly!

I managed to score these prizes;

Window sign (obviously), and an Atari belt buckle. The Bowser in the kart was a participation prize.

The badges I bought afterwards. Red Mushroom being the most popular badge of the night!

Generally I don’t do weeknight drinking unless I have a next-day off, or on a holiday. I had a great time, once again to be around people for a night of drinking and like-minded geeking up on one subject we can get along to.. with nerdly bashings of which console was better.. or what song was playing at which level.. *sigh* Good times!

I’ll never get sick of the retrogaming trend, NEVER, and nobody will ever take that away from me! It’ll be a part of me for the rest of my life no doubt. Which reminds me, I need to get that Sega Master System 2 off my mate (which has been refurbished/cleaned up, and thrown in a few games too) Next fortnight hopefully. I can then start building up my mini retro-game lounge in the house. Pics on that once it develops!

Okay I should really go sleep, I got to get up for work in 5.5 hours…
